5K to Honor Teen Who Succumbed to Bulimia

California--The 5^th annual Jackie Bristow Memorial 5K Run/Walk, hosted in memory of the St. Lucy Priory graduate who died at age 19 in 2008 from complications of bulimia, will be held 8 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12 at the San Dimas Civic Center, 201 E. Bonita, San Dimas.

The race will also include a Munchkin Mile at 8:30 a.m.

Jacquelyn Lee Bristow grew up in San Dimas and attended Holy Name of Mary School in San Dimas and St. Lucy’s Priory High School in Glendora.  She was a cross country star and a semi-finalist for the National Merit Scholarship competition. She graduated at the top of her class in 2006.

But the accomplished teen suffered from a disorder she kept well hidden from family and friends.

In 2008, Bristow died of sudden cardiac arrest from an electrolyte imbalance caused by continual binging and purging.

Her family established The Jackie Bristow Memorial Foundation to spread awareness of eating disorders and available treatment. The annual 5K run/walk aims to promote healthy lifestyles and body image.

Online registration is closed, but participants can still register onsite at 7 a.m.
